The short version: I recommend Third Rock Adventures, and I earn a small referral fee when readers book a trek through them. The referral fee does not cost you anything extra. It is how this site stays free.

Now the long version, because that summary is what most sites stop at and I think you deserve more.

What the referral fee is

When you reach out to me about a Nepal trek and I introduce you to Naba and his team at Third Rock Adventures, and you decide to book with them, Third Rock pays me a small percentage of the trip cost. The percentage is built into their margins. They do not charge you more because I made the introduction. You pay the same price you would pay if you had found Third Rock yourself.

Why I have this arrangement

I have been to Nepal seven times since 2012. I have used Third Rock for most of those trips. I have casually tried other operators and consistently come back to Third Rock because they have done right by me, my daughters, and the people I have sent their way. The referral arrangement formalizes what was already happening: friends asked me who I used in Nepal, I told them Third Rock, they booked.

Why I only recommend one operator

Because trust at this distance requires personal verification. I cannot in good faith recommend an operator I have not personally tested. Third Rock is the one I keep going back to.

Other relationships

I have no other affiliate or referral relationships of any kind. No gear company sponsors me. No airline pays me to mention them. No hotel network sends me a kickback. I have written about specific products and places on the blog purely because I have used them and they were worth mentioning.

If that changes in the future I will update this page first.

Why I disclose this so publicly

Because not disclosing it would be the kind of thing that makes the internet feel cheap. You read advice online from people who quietly take money from companies they recommend, and you can never quite tell whether the advice is honest. I would rather just tell you the truth up front and let you decide whether my recommendation is worth anything to you given the arrangement.

What this means for you

When you read me recommending Third Rock, take it as a recommendation from someone who has personally trekked with them seven times and who also has a financial relationship with them. Weigh both. If you want to ignore the recommendation and book elsewhere, that is your call and the rest of the site (which is most of the site) is still useful to you.
